Good quality data, could be the answer to all our needs, but only daily bars, it seems...

We simply don’t have the manpower to maintain such data.
We'd like to, but can't do it all. It's hard enough keeping up with the Daily data - and it's free. There's no way we could justify an intraday data effort without charging for it, and there are already plenty of providers for minute and even tick data - IQFeed is at the top of the list.
What kind of work does it require? Wouldn't an automated script triggered at the end of each trading day do the job?
Just ask yourself, if it’s really that easy why hasn’t somebody done it?
