What are the rules for having multiple instances of WL8 open in the same computer simultaneously? Say if I open a second instance of WL8 I am able to connect to the same broker with the 2nd computer with no issues and do AutoPlace orders with both? Wonder what the limitations are. Thanks.

You can open as many as your RAM/CPU can handle.

Now that's a different question, depending on broker. And for most, you probably shouldn't do it or will be unable to.

On the same computer, consider just launching another main window from the File menu. You can even save a Workspace with multiple main windows.

Like Eugene indicated, connecting multiple computers to the same account won't be allowed for IB, TDA, and probably others. In those cases, the other session will disconnect.

.. At least that will happen if connecting from different IPs. You can, for example, connect to the same instance of IB TWS from multiple machines by using a different Client ID in the IB Provider configuration. You'll also need to modify the TWS configuration to accept connections from another [local] IP.

Thanks, That's correct WL8 will not allow me connect to IB from the second instance of WL8 however when I had the 2nd instance open I was able to have the AutoPlace ON apparently creating orders in the background that were not sent to IB. But then when I disconnected the first instance to IB all the 2nd instance orders were sent at once to IB. Very interesting!
I wonder like Cone is saying I can modify TWS to have 2 separate IDs for the 2 instances of WL8?

It's not exactly what I wrote. Specifically,

If you have 2 WL8s connecting to 1 TWS you need each WL8 to use a different Client ID in WL's IB Provider configuration.

If you're connecting from a different machine you need to do the above, AND for the remote machine you need to identify the Host IP Address of the machine where TWS is running.

Also, you need to enable the connection for a non-local host in the TWS Configuration.

Thanks, I also noticed that you can not access custom indicators from 2nd instance of WL8 is that correct?

Is the 2nd instance running in the Admin mode, required for custom indicators?

Yes both are. When I open the 2nd instance I get this message.

When WL8 starts it needs to rebuild the custom indicators, and that means deleting and replacing the assemblies, so that's right, running two instances will run into the problems you described with custom indicators.

A solution would be to build a class library in Visual Studio or some other dev tool that contains the indicators. Then copy that assembly into the WL8 Program Files folder.

If it's on the same computer, just don't run 2 instances. Open as many "New Main Windows" as you like from the File menu.

Thanks, The "New Main Window" feature is what I was looking for. This way looks like I can AutoTrade the same symbol in 2 different workspaces with 2 different strategies in IB.
I keep finding wonderful new hidden features in WL8. Thanks for the info.

In our defense, being in the main File menu it's not really "hidden"... and I mentioned it in my first reply above.

By "hidden" I meant I didn't know about it. Figure of speech. :)
