Strategy monitor does not allow adding a metastrategy. Does that mean one have to use streaming chart?

No. A MetaStrategy models trading multiple strategies.

You can trade/place Signals for Daily+ strategies from the MetaStrategy window. Otherwise, you would trade each strategy individually using any combination of Strategy Monitor, Streaming Charts, and/or Quotes tool.

I see. Thanks! So some MetaStrategy test features such as rebalancing, order pruning has to be done by oneself for live trading?

One less related question: If a strategy trades multiple symbols, could it be traded using streaming charts?

With my MetaStrategy I just run it every day after market close and submit all the orders to my broker directly from the signals tab. Not fully automated I suppose but it takes less than a minute per day:

Depends on what you mean. If the strategy is applied to a DataSet, then you need a chart for every symbol in the DataSet. In general though, if you're trading intraday scales and don't use a tick-by-tick provider like IQFeed, you should opt for the Strategy Monitor with Streaming Bars (any interval) or polling (for intervals 5 or 10 minutes and up).

Why? Explained in this blog:

Right. Rebalancing is performed on a daily basis, minimum. If you're using the same account, you'd just change your sizing for the day as required. There will be no live signal pruning - it's way complicated. And, if your intraday strategies are trading the same symbols, you'll want to make sure that "Use Live Positions" is DISABLED in Preferences > Trading.
