I'm having trouble getting the chart pattern indicators to show up in WL. I downloaded the extension from here and installed (https://www.wealth-lab.com/extension/detail/ChartPatterns#screenshots)

But when I attempt to activate the chart patterns in the data manager I don't see the same check box as is shown in your video. What could be going wrong here - am I missing a step?

You should find it in the Event Providers tab.

It appears the Chart Patterns extension is not properly installed. Try closing WL7 and running the installation again.

Okay, I just tried that and it's still not showing up. When I first tried to install Chart Patterns, WL was running. Do you think I messed something up by doing that, which is now making it impossible for the install to work correctly? Is there a workaround?

Hmmm I don’t think so. Can you look in the WL7 install folder under Program Files, Quantacula, WealthLab7 and see if the folder contains WealthLab.ChartPatterns.dll?

You'll need to scroll down to make sure you have the WealthLab.ChartPatterns.dll file. But it looks like you probably do. Is your WL7 up to date? Are there any error messages reported under Tools/Log Viewer?

Like Glitch suggested, your WL7 is out of date - I made a check and it's build 17. ChartPatterns require minimum build 28. Once you update WL7 the extension will appear.

Sorry to write back so many times, but when attempting to use Chart Patterns I found another problem. When I click on the dropdown to select "rectangle breakout", nothing shows up.

When you click on Chart Patterns in Event Providers, does it look something like the image below (ignoring checkmarks)?

If so, what happens when you click the button outlined? Do you get a document with patterns text?

When I click on Chart Patterns in the event provider, and then click on the button you've outlined, I get this error:

Weird. What's the full path to the WealthLab7.exe on your PC? Did you change the default Program Files location?

Additionally, what version of the ChartPatterns Extension are you running?

Do these screenshots give the information needed to figure out what's causing the problem?

The most important clue so far is the error message that pops up when you click the button to open the ChartPatterns file. Still investigating.

1. After opening the Event Providers tab, can you spot any error messages from ChartPatterns in the Log Viewer?

2. The ChartPatterns.txt file's location, c:\Users\%your Windows username%\AppData\Roaming\WealthLab7\, has nothing to do with Program Files. When you click "Open Library..." it should open the app that handles TXT files in Windows - like Notepad.

- Can you open the ChartPatterns.txt file by clicking on it in Explorer (see the location above)?
- Strike Win-R, type in "cmd" (w/o quotes), paste command below (replacing the variable text) and launch it.

cmd $"/c start c:\Users\your Windows username\AppData\Roaming\WealthLab7\ChartPatterns.txt"

What happens?

We have a theory that the issue is caused by the ChartPatterns.txt file being read from the WL7 App folder instead of its User Data folder. Can you try updating to Build 6 of the Extension and see if this makes any difference?

Note: for other users not experiencing this issue, there's no need to make this update.

Eugene,

After opening the Event Providers tab, I don't see any error messages from ChartPatterns in the Log Viewer.

I followed your instructions to attempt to open the chartpatterns text file, and got this error:

Glitch,
After updating to Build 6, this is how the event providers tab of the data manager looks:

That's odd. Looks like garbage in - garbage out. Maybe that extraneous and mysterious "CODE:" entry gives Dion a hint?

The file is missing but in this case it should simply be re-created on startup which presumably doesn't happen.

1. Unless there's multi-user environment and you start WL7 as admin whose account is named differently (i.e. not "joeme")?
2. Does "Open MyChartPatterns.txt" button work if clicked?
3. Can you check that folder in Explorer and see what content the two files contain?

The more details about your environment we can find out the better.

Yes this is a good clue, I have a feeling that WL7 is making some assumptions about the directory structures that might be causing the issue of it not copying that file over. I made some changes for Build 30, target release tomorrow, so let's check then.

can you try running WL7 as an administrator? Right click the icon and select Run as Administrator. I don’t have a good idea why ChartPatterns.txt is failing to copy into your data folder, wd can also try manually copying it over and restarting but it would good to understand what’s happening here 🤔

the message I have written was stated as Admin :(
(I like to have full capabilities)
I do find ChartPatterns.xml (maybe the extension is the bug?)

ok, done copied to C:\Users\<me>\AppData\Roaming\WealthLab7
result is still the missing file. mind you that i found an xml and not the txt file
using the search engine for the whole pc the result is no chartpatterns.txt file anywhere on the pc

One last question, did you perhaps change the WL7 install directory when you installed it? I'll send an email with ChartPatterns.txt attached.

no, no changes from defaults (install directory)

got it!! and :) it works
incidentally i found out what might happend
copying the file into the datafolder i was blocked by windows and to autorize the copy command (i have elevated authority), so it probably not wealth-lab fault but the local autority on the local pc folders themselves (my side was the problem)
thanks for extensive help

Hello, I just purchased WL7 (Premium License) for the first time, I had followed through with instructions on this entire thread - nothing seemed to work. Please keep in mind I have a fresh windows 11 installation from scratch, with local admin access therefore I doubt folder/drive permissions is this case. A search for chartpatterns.txt yielded no results (not in WL7 Data folder, not in App folder). I have started to build the chartpatterns.txt file from scratch after watching your video but its time consuming, I would really appreciate it if I can get the file emailed as well.

If its any help just a crazy and humble suggestion here, based on this information:

QUOTE:
Build 6 - 10/27/2021
Reads the ChartPatterns.txt file from the WL7 Data folder instead of the App folder. There's no need to install this update unless you're not getting any patterns in the Chart Patterns Event Provider.:

.....maybe the change in build 6 (folder directory) caused further builds to NOT create a ChartPatterns.txt file at all, while older clients/users with older builds already had the file to begin with from the very old builds, in their computers, thus not noticing any issues.

This is the error I get when clicking Open Library Chart Patterns button:
"Windows Cannot Find: C:\users\famis\AppData\Roaming\Wealthla7\Chartpatterns.txt"

By all means, I uploaded it to our web site, you can just access it here ...

https://www.wealth-lab.com/txt/ChartPatterns.txt

I'll investigate why the file might have failed to copy over for you, but this should get you up and running ASAP!

Edit: I do see the issue in the installation, it's not copying the file over - will get it rectified by tomorrow.
