I can set columns width but it looks like these values are not saved and loaded when saving and loading workspaces.

Could you make it a feature request? I can't edit the initial post.

What are column settings?

Columns order, width, visibility of the certain colum (I guess now it's not customizable).

Dion will decide but IMHO this idea is far from being good/safe for it would increase complexity and may introduce side effects for very little gain. Columns can vary from context, depend on Scorecard currently applied etc.

From my support experience, LOTS of users accidentally clicked to hide "Show status bar on chart" in WL6 producing TONS of unnecessary support incidents like "Can't optimize strategy" or "Chart is not streaming" (because said buttons became hidden). If a user accidentally makes a zero-width column in WL7 for example, he would fall into the same trap because his backtest report, Quotes window or optimization would now have missing columns and he wouldn't know he needs to reset them to default.

Yes, as a product owner I understand what side effects are, what development costs and efforts etc. are.

Yes, but product value is not a sum of these ”gains”. There is a synergistic effect that makes all these small things into a huge common thing.

As for this exact feature, you have this very convenient option - Workspaces, the idea is to spent time once and then use many times with a single click. But on my laptop 1. I can’t see all the columns, 2. I don’t want to see all the columns 3. I would like to certain columns were paid more attention (by using width or columns order) etc. And I need to live with that (my inner perfectionist cries) or I have to change it manually every time, that ruins the whole Workspaces concept (a small thing kills a bigger thing).

But it’s up to Dion of course, you are right).

Can we stay positive and implement this request too?))

This is a bit more involved, and has it been submitted as a Request yet?

We should consider concerns in Post #4 based on support experience.

Yes, we will consider everything and come up with an answer when it comes time to consider this request. I tagged it as #FeaturRequest.

There are reasonable support concerns. Users can forget about some settings and how to undo them. (I've done that when aliasing Unix shell commands; probably a bad idea.)

I would suggest only saving column attributes if WL is running in expert mode. This way, if there's a support question, the answer is simply to take it out of expert mode so the saved setting aren't used. The user can take it on from there.

Eugene, your concerns look reasonable.

Glitch, I hope you'll find an optimal way. And I hope it will be something different than not implementing it)). As I really find it useful, I hope I'm not the only one.

We should note that since the multi column sort was added, columns can no longer be moved anyway. is your experience different? so any possible solution would need to also solve that tricky issue.

What do you mean? - I can still move columns - you just need click when pointer is not over the text.

My main wishes here are deleting columns and changing width. First one can be done with setting 0 width. So it's all about width actually. But being able to remember columns order would be nice too.

We won't be saving column settings in a Workspace, but are working on ListView column order and width retention. So, each ListView will remember its own column settings and restore them whenever it's generated again in the future.

I have no idea what exactly this means). So I'll wait for it to be implemented to see what it looks like.

Or you could explain a bit more. ListView - what is it, is it a new UI object you are going to use for all the tables in WL7 istead of what is use now? Each ListView will remember... - what does this mean? - Does this mean that order and width of the exact table will be saved and loaded the next time? - And will be the same for every table of the same kind - like every Positions tab, no matter what workspase it is.

The tables we use are already called ListViews. I'm enhancing the ListView control to store and recall its column state, order and widths.

I like the way it works now, thanks for the update! Much better now, really.

There are still usecases for storing this data withing a workspase being better than the way it works now (b42), like:

- Using WL7 on different computers with different monitors, like 13 inch notebook and 27 inch desktop. I mean remote connection where you use the same WL7, but the way it looks like depends on what is the host computer monitor size.
- Using the same window as one of the windows sharing screen (saved as a workspace) or using a full size window.

But the gap between good and the best is less than the gap between good and not good, so I'll stop pushing the initial request as it was initially described). Again thanks for the update.

Thanks, there were some complications involved in storing them in a Workspace so yes this is a good compromise!
