Has anyone on here ever had any problems with using Alpaca for paper trading? I had 10 signals sent from WL to Alpaca yesterday for paper trading but it only took 2 of them. There was sufficient buying power, etc. But it stopped after 2 orders at 10am EDT and ignored the other 8 signals. If Alpaca isn't suitable for paper trading, what's a good paper trading broker that works with WL? TY.

Since most everything posted here is a question of sorts, prefacing every new topic with "Question about..." doesn't reveal the problem when scanning the headers. It'd be optimal if you briefly summarize the gist of the topic (like I did when renaming it). Thanks.

Did the orders have any error in the WL8 Order Manager or in Alpaca's web site?

Post an image of the tools involved in the WealthLab environment.
- What generated the signals?
- What were the signals? (maybe they were limit orders)
- Order Manager?
- Log Viewer if any errors.
- Accounts tool
- Preferences > Trading (maybe you've configured a Trading Threshold)
- etc.

There's a very good change we can tell you what happened if you give us the data in an image.

The orders did not have any trouble on WL's end. When I backtested it thru yesterday's it showed 10 signals(whereas Alpaca only took 2). They are all market orders as far as I know. Attached are some screenshots.

I hope this helps. Obviously no orders will go today because it's Saturday but this is exactly how I had it setup yesterday PRIOR to 9:30am EDT to be ready for the trading day from the get-go. TY.

Unlike that topic @Cone is referring to, however, the SM shows that the 1-minute Alpaca DataSet is selected.

True. I'd expect this one to set "Next Run" but for some reason it's not getting there. Since we can't see all of the text in the images, a copy/paste of the Log might provide a clue.

Edit -
We're making changes for Build 20, but it looks like the Alpaca provider is trying to download entire histories when it should be respecting the data loading settings. We'll look into that.

Ok, so just to summarize, am I best off in the meantime for paper trading, using Alpaca as the data provider and Dummy broker as the broker? To avoid these issues I'm having? At some point I will be opening an account with IB and paying for their real-time data and using their paper trading account but until I have an account with IB, is this the best setup for now just so I can get some paper trades going?? Alpaca for the intraday data and Dummy broker as the broker? TY.

P.S. Would AlphaVantage also be able to provide the intraday data I'm looking for to paper trade if I don't want to use Alpaca anymore?

AV is a good free option for just 2 symbols and limited history... although the data could be delayed by 15 minutes, so you should have it updated before the market opens so that the streaming provider can take over. And look, Yahoo! streaming is not "good".. it's the same as Alpaca free streaming - IEX, which is a very small percentage of the total market volume. For paper trading, it's good enough. The adage, "you get what you pay for" applies.

IMHO, Alphavantage makes sense on a paid subscription to get more data and avoid the delay.

I am using alpaca for paper trading, and sometimes orders aren't sent to alpaca.

Are you using the Alpaca build 9 and WL8 Build 39?

What order types are failing?

yes

Buy & Short StopLimit. The second one are sl and tp I guess. Usually orders go through, today I accidentally noticed when I compared the results with the backtest.

Okay, we'll mark it for investigation. It seems you found a bug scenario.

I haven't been able to duplicate this for long or short Positions, even using moving bracket orders.

If there's a strategy or scenario that you can give me to help duplicate what you posted above, let me know.

I'll try to catch this bug. Today when I opened the program I saw the following picture. All orders were in error. I made a separate strategy where I cut out all the logic except for the functionality of opening orders. On that strategy orders opened as they should, but when I went back to test the previous strategy it started working. So I am still confused.

Go to the Log Viewer (Ctrl+L).
Is there more information about the Object reference errors? A stack trace of the exception?
