I considered making them an actual crypto token but was advised that this was highly risky because they would be considered a security and might draw scrutiny from the SEC. So we're keeping them as a form of internal WL currency/reward point for now.

glitch since they are not producing patents they're a store of value considered a stablecoin and should freely fluctuate that's cryptocurrency stablecoin and the reason it's cryptocurrency is if you make patents with them otherwise it is perfectly fine as a stablecoin to be a security

For now, they will remain an internal WL currency. There's legal compliance considerations and considerable cost involved in making them actual crypto tokens. But I'm not ruling that out as a future step.
