Just installed WL8 B35. I didn't even activate my trial. It stucks at checking license popup at the beginning and does nothing, no error. Just hangs. My OS is Win10. Please advise. I have dotnet 6 and 7 runtimes installed.

Try to turn off your antivirus and firewall. I have a feeling one of them restricts WL's from connecting to the license check server. Once it works you can set up a rule to whitelist all of the app's communications.

Thanks for the reply. No luck unfortunately. I tried that approach before posting the problem. It doesn't give an error message and can't find the log file as well. Annoying :(

I looked in the logs and noticed you're trying to take a free trial in a virtual machine. This is not allowed.

That is not exactly true. I tried to run on different environments to see what is the root of the problem. Still not working on my Win10 local machine.

At the moment I'm really surprised about how you were able to start that free trial, but please don't try it further.

Did you evaluate WL7/8 before? Have you signed up for another account? Trying to understand what may be causing the lockup.

Ok, no worries. Thank you. WL was on my list for a long time. I didn't have a chance to try it properly. Maybe I might have installed an earlier version years ago. But certainly must be more than 2 years ago, if I did installed it.

Thanks. Re: over 2 years ago: WL6 trials don't count, and we would be happy to reset your WL7 demo after such a long break to let you try it out for free (if it were).

It's just that looking under the hood, that trial on Win11 Pro is hard to explain from a technical perspective.

Interestingly, despite my 25 years of computer nerd experience, I cannot run WL8 on my Win10 machine.

Maybe it's a clue. We geeks tend to overcustomize our systems.

After a few months I switched (again) back to my secondary development machine (Win 10)
At startup WL hangs with this little "Checking License" screen.
I updated WL to build 106, and enabled WealthLab.exe in the firewall.

Any ideas?

This indicates WL8 wasn't able to determine a hardware fingerprint for this machine. It's worth noting:

Microsoft will end support for Windows 10 on October 14, 2025

So we have less than a year of Windows 10 support.

Now, if this is a pervasive Windows 10 issue we might invest some time working through the cause, but we have to decide, is it worth the resources considering Win 10 will soon be out of support?

UPDATE: I did a windows update (all recomended update packages) and the problem went away... :)
