I just subscribed to WL8, and I want to migrate from my WL7 Install. I don't see the migration tool on the home page. What am I missing?

We turned this off by default since so much time has passed. But you can enable it again by modifying the WL8 settings file (Settings.txt).

You can open the Settings file from the WL8 file menu. Select File/Open User Data Folder. This should open File Explorer pointed at the WL8 settings folder.

Close down WL8.

Scroll down to the Settings.txt file and double click it. Add the line:

HideMigration=False

Then restart WL8.

We expected Version 7 customers to have migrated shortly after Version 8 was released about a 1 1/2 years ago. There was no cost to upgrade. Now with the 40 builds of WealthLab since that time, I'm afraid the Migrator has passed its useful life.

Here's how I'd proceed (untested) -

1. Start WL8 to create your User Data folder here:
C:\Users\you\AppData\Roaming\WealthLab8

2. Install your extensions for WL8. This is easily done from Tools -> Home -> Version Information on the right. Just check your Extensions, hit the Start Download button, and follow the install wizards.

3. Close WL8.

4. Copy your folders from the corresponding WealthLab7 directory the one above. I'd do this without copying the DataSets or Strategies folders at first. First make sure it works without those, close WL8 again, and add them.

5. You're likely to get errors for Strategies, so you'll have to rework block strategies.

C# Coded strategies are more easily converted by a simple search and replace routine. Let us know if you need that.
