You are right, I specified the WL8 installation folder incorrectly.
However,
1. The WL8 shortcut on the Desktop has disappeared.
2. WL8 is missing from the list of Installed Programs.
3. There is no .exe file in the WL8 folder either.

Repair your installation, or, uninstall and re-install.
And if that doesn't work, my guess is that you need to look at your virus protection for false positives.
