Hi,

I have an Alpaca subscription and only use Alpaca for market data, not for execution.

I use another broker for my orders and connect Alpaca through a paper account.

Can I still access SIP live data with my subscription on a paper account, or do I need live account API keys?

No. Paper accounts provide IEX data only. You have to pay for the good stuff and need the Live API Keys.

I have an AlgoTrader Plus (SIP) subscription, but I use a Paper account since I only use Alpaca for data, not execution.

It already works on other software and in Python with my Paper keys.

From this thread, SIP seems tied to the subscription, not to Live/Paper keys:

That would be great for me since I can't open a Live account from my country.

At least for WealthLab's Alpaca provider, the streaming client for SIP data will connect only with a Live Security Key.

It still seems like a fairly easy thing to support.

Just allow users to check "Use SIP Data" while using a Paper account instead of showing an error popup. Users without a SIP subscription could simply leave the option unchecked.

For my use case, am I really forced to create my own Alpaca plugin, or could this be supported in the existing provider?

You can use SIP data with a Paper Account (check Paper Account), but you need a Live API Key for SIP. That's an Alpaca requirement.
