I am using schwab, I have sqqq data back to 2010. but there is no position before 2019.

See User Guide about using 100% of Equity.

Shortcut >> Apply a Margin Factor (e.g., 1.20) to give your position sizing some leeway when price gaps higher than the Basis Price so that you don't skip trades, which become NSF positions.

I changed margin factor to 1.5, equity position of 50%, same problem, but works fine with spy.

Look at your positions. The first positions are for 1 share only. This is a clue about what’s going on. If your want the spoilers read below:

.
.
.
.
.
The earlier positions could not be taken because SQQQ was at a higher split adjusted price than your 1,000 starting capital.
