Currently, the indicator label (description, value) background is transparent so the indicator plot shows through and if it overlaps then the label is hard (sometimes impossible) to read. And if one is trying to read the last bar's value then even scrolling to the left is not an option.
The problem is quite acute when multiple indicators are plotted but can occur even with a single plot as shown in the image below.

Suggestion: Either the label's background can be made opaque by default OR an option can be added to the plots to allow one to choose color and/or opacity for it; the latter is preferable as the user can set it so it doesn't clash with the chart's theme/colors.

Another option could be to not draw the plot within the label line.

Not to be nit-picky, but I'd really prefer non-opaque labels. I mean, we could add yet another option, but at what point does this become options overload?

I see Glitch's point about too many options. In that case, my suggestion is to no longer draw the chart within the label line. For example, ThinkOrSwim has dedicated label lines.

Right, the Plot methods do have a parameter to avoid drawing the label. But I suppose if there's enough demand for this one more Chart Preference won't break the camel's back.

QUOTE:
..avoid drawing the label...

If you don't draw the label then you can't see the indicator value either. Also, if one has multiple similar indicators (e.g. lines) then one won't even know which one is which.

Indicator names are important for several reasons: Their color directs our eyes to the specific indicator (in a pane with multiple indicators), they give info on parameters used and, last but not the least, they display value at any bar.

The way it works now is when you mouseover the indicator line, the indicator label is highlighted with an opaque background. What's wrong with this current approach?

I suppose you could add a feature to add an opaque background whenever you mouseover the label itself. Is that what this feature request is about?

I'd like dedicated lines for the values. Many times the graph is on top of the values and you have to move the chart around to see the values.

WL8 (here, the coverage is not necessarily that bad, but you get the picture):

ThinkOrSwim has a dedicated line so the graph never covers the values:

Just my two cents.

@superticker,
This request is about having an opaque background all the time without the need to mouseover (which is not practical when you have a bunch of indicators). Can be optional.

Using WL8 build 34.

The ticket is marked as Open but if my crooked eyes are not deceiving me it seems that this has already been implemented... there's a (partial) opacity of all indicator labels making them mercifully easy to read in most situations (this transforms to a complete opacity upon mousing over the label - was previously present).
This 2-in-1 effect is rather cool - thanks for implementing!

The ticket may now be marked as Completed.
