I get a red "Need to load data" message, and when hover over it, a new message says "Click to require new data load". When I click, nothing happens.

Hi pepeters,
The red message is just indicating that the strategy has not loaded any data yet. It will load data automatically the first time you run the backtest, then that message will go away.
After that point, you can continue to modify and run the strategy using the data that is already loaded. If, for any reason, you want to force a reload of the data (maybe you're using intraday data and there is new data available for example) you can click that control to force it to load the data again the next time you run a backtest.

Thanks, but I just tried that. It appears to backtest, but then gives the message "Error during backtest: no backtest data."
What data did you have selected to backtest?
In Strategy Settings there is no place to specify the data source for a backtest. In the Data Manager I have the Historical Providers Wealth Data and Q-Data checked. For the Streaming Providers there is only one choice - Yahoo Finance, and it is checked.
You specify the data source here:
That is the data SET you are pointing to. You asked about the data SOURCE earlier.
I have tried various data sets. The error message is generated whenever I change from daily bars to any intraday interval.

I believe you're getting the error because neither W-D, Q-D nor Yahoo support intraday data. It should go away after enabling an intraday-enabled data provider like Alphavantage, IQFeed etc.
Dion, maybe the user experience here could be improved if WL would suggest to activate an intraday enabled data provider (if installed) upon selecting an intraday scale if no currently checked providers support this scale?
Technically, you're right, but we have to find a way to explain this better... although I'm sure it's in the Help Guide. There are 2 types of DataSets - linked and unlinked.
Unlinked:
The DataSet is NOT linked to a Historical Provider. These DataSets have the "globe" icon. Wealth-Lab will search through the checked Providers, in order top to bottom for the symbol data.
Linked:
The DataSet is linked to a Historical Provider. These DataSets use the Provider's icon. For Linked DataSets, Wealth-Lab will request the data from the Linked Provider first - even if not checked. If the Link Provider doesn't have the data, it starts requesting the data from the checked Providers, as if it were unlinked.
In Dion's image, you're right, the DataSet is Nasdaq 100, but we can also see the provider is Wealth-Data.
Finally, it sounds like you're trying to request intraday data with only Yahoo! checked. Ain't going to work because Y! is not an intraday provider. You need to install an intraday Provider and select it.

Previous information on Searches re 'Need to Load Data' in red do not seem to apply now. I am using Norgate Data Gold.
1. First of all, have you updated Norgate data in its client software?
2. Is the Norgate provider checked on Data Manager's Historical tab?
3. In this strategy backtest's window, have you tried checking "Obtain data from Selected DataSet only" in Strategy Settings > Portfolio Backtest?

3. In this strategy backtest's window, have you tried checking "Obtain data from Selected DataSet only" in Strategy Settings > Portfolio Backtest?
For those coming from WL 6.9, although you can run a Single Symbol backtest by clicking a symbol in the DataSet tree, Portfolio Backtests are selected in the Strategy Settings.
Eugene's answers:
1 Auto updated each hour
2 Yes
3 Yes
Still no data loaded. What is SPY?

It looks like Norgate isn't providing the Weekly SPY for some reason. If you put a check next to Wealth-Data in the Data Mgr > Historical Providers list, it should work.
Oddly, I can't duplicate that. Do you have permissions for U.S. Stocks and ETFs? If not, Wealth-Data will back you up. Alternatively, you can just change the benchmark symbol.
