You can get the data in any supported format like ASCII or Metastock from 3rd party data vendor and import it using built-in providers.

I would be surprised if the problem didn't happen. ;)
You should define the proper 1) fields and 2) field delimiter for the provider to pick up the file. Give this a try:

If you paste a few lines of your ascii file here it would help, if it’s using mixed delimiters it might be a problem.
