Many crypto markets are not very active. When you start the Quotes tool Stream on a list of crypt currencies, it may be hours before some of the symbols record a trade and subsequently show a quote.
Bid/ask spread is usually very active and a good indication of the "inside market" (the best price you can get when selling or buying) at any point in time. Note that Forex brokers commonly don't even report "Trades" for charting and only supply Bid/Ask.
For example, Interactive Brokers uses the Midpoint for historical charts, and, Wealth-Lab's IB Provider does the same in real time by calculating the bid/ask midpoint and updating the quote on changes in the spread.
Crypto providers, like Kraken, could do the same to give a more accurate picture of the inside market at any point in time. Here's a test with the Kraken Provider sending the Bid/Ask Midpoint as the current quote.
Feature Request
Option 1 - Global Preference for Crypto Providers to use Bid/Ask Midpoint for Streaming
Has the following effect -
1. Stop orders could be triggered when the market moves to the stop price without a trade actually occurring.
2. Strategies would hypothetically fill limit orders when the Midpoint reaches the trigger price, but a trade didn't necessarily occur.
Option 2 - Preference for Crypto Providers to use Bid/Ask Midpoint for Quotes & Triggers
In this scenario, only the Quotes tool would use the MidPoint and would be shown as the current price and also used for triggering. Trades could also be incorporated with the MidPoint prices.
Option 3 - Add Bid/Ask Columns for Quotes & Triggers
Here, the Midpoint would not be used for triggering trades. The Bid/Ask would at least be active feedback to shows you the inside market, even if trades were not occurring.
