I copied the contents of my Debug Log and then tried to paste it into Word and Excel. I could not paste it in either.

I just tried it on WL7, Build 11, and it works fine for me. You have to highlight the area you want to copy first. Did you do that? You can use CTRL-A to highlight everything.
Exactly as @superticker says, contents have to be highlighted prior to copying. Then you can Use Ctrl-Ins / Shift-Ins or Ctrl-C / Ctrl-V.
For me Ctrl+C works, but right-click "Copy to Clipboard" (highlighted area) does not. We'll look into that!
