I am working to set up WL8 on a VPS. I downloaded and installed WL8 onto the machine. It is running Windows Server 2016 (Windows 10 equivalent). However when I attempt to start WL, it gives me error code 0x0001. It says it cannot locate my WL8 license. However, it will not even run the program so that I may enter my license. I am not sure how to proceed.

Thanks for the links. Unless I am missing something, it appears the only solution is to use a different VPS service?
Yes, that's the shortcut. Another solution can be to set up the hypervisor (as advised in THIS POST) - of course if it's allowed by your vendor. Sorry if I can't be of much help here.
I noticed you're having success with an Azure virtual machine?
Yes I did thanks. It is a little more expensive than my first option but not that bad.
