Hi, this is a big one, but think maybe you guys have done it.

I designed a system in 1984 (dang I must be old) that I just did not have the ability nor resources to do. Heck back then data was only had by the brokers and no online trading (I was going to OCR WSJ for data). Can remember it.

So on a chart you can see really good spots to go long or short. What wanted to do is select say 100 of those spots, then use a computer to figure out what the common denominators were, at that point. To simplify, I created buckets such as:

a. Over 50 dma, over 5 dma.
b. Over 50 dma, under 5 dma.
c. Under 50 dma, over 5 dma
d. Under both

Then say on gold vs DXY

a. Much higher relative perf
b A little higher
c. Much lower
d. A little lower.

And so forth. So it was finding the sweet spots, then having a computer figure out what are the common denominators of those situations were.

Does WL have something like that?

WL8 can do anything given you have the coding skills. We also offer a Concierge Service where we can code advanced solutions for you for a fee.

You might also create a strategy with a bunch of 0 to 1 parameters and then optimize it. If the parameter is 1 it would consider that entry. You’d need to define exits too, perhaps in a similar way.

Thanks Glitch. In another way WL actually does this, thru back testing and optimization it works the opposite direction of what was trying to do, but gets similar results, I guess.

Cheers

I know, and we internally talked about developing an extension more along the lines of what you described, but it's not on the short-term road map. So much to do!
