Hello everyone! I am new here, and new in algo trading but have years of experience in trading the "old way". I am trying to minimize time spent in front of computer, and WL seems promising. I have already learned to backtest my old strategies and how to optimize them. But I have some questions regarding WL/PC/internet crashes:

1.
As I understand, WL8 runs on my PC, and it is not a cloud service. So, I wonder what happens if my computer or WL crashes and doesn't recover for a long time? I suppose trading just stops, and any open positions stay open because they are not getting any commands to get covered? What will happen when I eventually restart WL and possible cover signals for my positions have happened during my PC was down? Does WL send cover signals (just later than they should have) when I restart WL, or do I need to cover my positions manually?

2.
Same goes to having problems with internet connection. What happens if my connection cuts out for say 10 seconds? 1 hour? Of course entry/exit signal execution will have delays.

-> I hope there is somekind of failsafe mechanism I can turn on/off and with adjustable settings. For example I would like to set it to cover all open positions if WL or internet connection crashes and connection is not re-established in 5 minutes.

3.
Follow up question: If I for some reason close my position manually via broker, does it mess with active running strategy? (propably yes)
How about if I have active strategy, and close my position manually with WL Stragegy monitor (or order manager?), what will happen when actual signal to cover a position happens?

4.
Is it possible to run single strategies in a cloud now or in the near future? Maybe some extra fee for renting computing power would be charged of course..

1. It depends on a lot on the strategy and the settings, but sure, you'll miss new trading actions during the down time. Active orders that were working at the broker would continue to work, i.e., stop/limit orders for entries or exits.

2. It depends on the interval, data collection method, etc. A transient disconnect could make a difference for a Streaming strategy if it occurred right around the close (you might miss adding the bar altogether), but if you're polling in the Strategy Monitor, it would simply cause an execution delay. If you're down for an extended period, see #1.

Nothing of the sort. If you're that worried about the positions you're trading... ask yourself this - if your connection goes down and you were trading manually, what options do you have? I'd recommend:
- always have stops working.
- get a dual or multi-WAN router and pay for another connection (or see #4).

3. Open Preferences (F12) > Trading, strike F1 for the Help and read up on the Portfolio Sync options.

4. If you're asking if "we" would do that - no, not in the cards. But you can look up conversations here about running WealthLab on a VPS.

Thank you for answering.

I don't consider myself being over worried. But as a new user I just want to be sure to fully understand how WL works in different scenarios. Anything can and often will go wrong so it is nice to have some knowledge beforehand. And of course I will always have stops for each position and that works as failsafe.
