This problem is in addition to data manager quitting updates randomly which I reported yesterday. Please help. I am getting a little discouraged about this.

A new thread for this?

Joanna, please call the Fidelity support guys. You really have so many data problems that somebody needs to work with you more closely.

That said, if the Data Manager is aborting at about the same place (I think you said in the "T" symbols in the other thread), try deleting that folder of symbols according to the scale processed. Then perform another update to refresh those symbols, and with luck it will make it through.

Hi Cone. This new thread was created because in addition to my Data Manager quitting mid stream once the update is started which I previously reported under another thread, the current issue under this thread is about the fact that my Data Manager does not auto update like it should at 7 AM. Do you have suggestions about this matter? thanks.

1. Note that it's 7AM ET
2. Make sure that your computer clock and DST setting are precisely correct for the Time Zone that you have selected.
3. Make sure that Wealth-Lab is running at 7AM Eastern.

If 2 and 3 check out, check LastUpdateLog.txt in the \Data folder for clues to see if the update started and aborted for some reason.

Also I don't understand what you mean when you say: "try deleting that folder of symbols according to the scale processed." Are you asking me to delete my data sets? One of my data sets include over 2600 stocks.

Well that comment was w.r.t. the Data Manager stopping in mid-update. Deleting a folder of symbols and a DataSet are 2 different things. I'm saying to delete the letter "T" folder (or whichever it is) for the scale that is aborting the update.

What do you mean "the letter T folder?" What I was saying before was that my Data Manager will go on updating all the stock symbols that are in my data sets in alphabetical order, and then when it reaches, say "t" it stops updating, and says "update complete." So I exited the Data Manager, and re-entered it, and clicked Update Data once again, and it went on to finish the update: covering the remaining stocks till "z." And I believe the halt was occurring during the 5 min update.

User Guide: Data > Where Data Are Stored. Once you find the \Data\ folder, look for the FidelityStaticProvider folder. Look through that and it will become obvious how Wealth-Lab finds symbol data (.WL extension) in a WealthLab.DataStore.

On occasion, a symbol file will become corrupt. The idea was to delete the 5-Minute "T" folder of WL files to eliminate the possibility of a corrupt file. This is a good possibility if it's consistent that the update aborts when reaching the T's.

If you can identify precisely the symbol (and scale) that it's consistently aborting on, then don't delete the whole folder. In that case just delete the symbol's WL file (and perhaps the one that comes before it alphabetically).

This morning the Data Manager started doing the auto update at 7:46 AM rather than at the scheduled 7 AM. Is this because Fidelity's server is backed up or some reason related to Fidelity because my computer clock is correct, and the numbers 1,2 and 3 that Cone suggested all checked off?

Also I checked with my trading buddy, Rich, here in Cambridge, and he said that his Data Manager started the auto update at 7 am as scheduled. What is wrong?

Something with your software setup and your computer, in general.

so what can I do? My computer seems to operate fine other than with WLP.

Also my computer is a lot more powerful and faster than my friend Rich's who has a store-bought lap top. In fact I do most of his back testing form him because my computer is 1. able to do things that his could not, 2. My computer do things a lot faster such as back testing that would take his lap top eternity.

Also would deleting some large folders in my C: drive make a difference?

"deleting some large folders" ... Which folders do you have in mind and why do you want to delete them?

In Wealth-Lab Pro 4x, the Auto-update time was the hour when the update could start, but the actual start time was staggered by some number of minutes so that everyone wasn't hitting the server simultaneously. I thought that was removed for Version 5/6, but I could be wrong.

Just monitor it for a while and determine if there's some consistency.

I have a 1 terabyte hard drive C:. Out of this, I just noticed that a couple of webinar recordings that I made and stored using a screen capture software was taking up 604GB!! I could compress these files, and move them over to my external hard drive so that I could free up space in my C: drive. My reason for doing this would be to improve the performance of my PC including the operation of WLP including Data Manager. I thought maybe this would help Data Manager auto update data at 7 AM rather than later like 7:46 AM, but maybe not since the discrepancy in time seems to be too big. What do you think?

I will monitor the Data Manager every morning to see if there is consistency in update time. if there is, and if I wanted my update to be done earlier than 7:46 AM, I could set my auto update at 6 AM (since the time increment is set at every hour on Data Manager,) and maybe this will make Data Manager to update at around 6:46 am.

There can be no relationship to your hard drive usage/free space to when WLP starts its auto update.

If the 4x logic is in place, that's very possible.

I am obviously not a Geek, so please be patient with me. What is 4x logic?

It's explained in my 11/12/2010 1:13 PM posting.

Hi. As promised, I observed my Data Manager this morning after I turned WLP on at around 6:30 or so. My auto update is scheduled for 7 AM every morning, and my Data Manger did not update at all. Since I could not forgo data update, I manually clicked update data at around 8:45 or so. As I said in an earlier post, my Data Manager did auto update last Friday, I believe, at around 7:46 AM or so which is 46 minutes later than scheduled, but this morning, it did not start updating at all. Could you please help? Thanks.

Open a support ticket. Attach to your first post an image of the Data Manager > Update Data tab without changing anything on it. If you save the image as a .bmp, please zip it first.

Incidentally, have you tried working with Fidelity phone support on this or other issues?

If I save the image as .png or .jpg, is it ok to send it as is? Or would you still like me to zip those? I called Fidelity earlier about a different problem, and it was disruptive because I had to be on the phone for so long continually, and was not able to do anything while I was on the phone. so I am hoping that I could fix this problem through this channel this time. Thanks a million.

Of course, you can attach a png or jpg (compressed formats).
