Recently I start to study the DOW theory and found it is very interesting for long term primary trend forecast. I would like to purchase some data back to 1900 or earlier. Can anyone points to the right source that I can get these daily prices for both DOW industrial and transportation (rails)?

Thanks in advance.

Check Stooq. "Quality" hard to judge but they have data going back to 1900

Hi Harapa,

Thank you for pointing to the right direction. I installed the extension and downloaded the data from Stooq.

The best source for quality, complete, historical U.S. stock data back to 1950 and before is at http://premiumdata.net/

I have been able to the data from Stooq data provider. My old laptop's hard disk is broken and I got a new laptop and have to reinstall the wealth-lab and the data providers. Now I can get individual stocks such as APPL, MSFT wit APPL.US, MSFT.US. However I can not get the ^DJI, DJT, ^NDX, ^SPX and ^NDQ anymore. When I try to download the data, the provider said these are invalid symbols.

I am able to get the historical data for these symbols directly from the stooq.com, but I prefer to get these data from the provider directly. Can someone tell me how to get these indices data through the Stooq data provider?

Thanks,

IMHO, you can get neither AAPL (let alone APPL) nor MSFT. Stooq requires you to add .US suffix to U.S. symbols for a while. As for ^DJI etc., there seems to be a minor change at Stooq with regard to the download URL so our format isn't acceptable for the indices. I'll get it fixed for the September extension release later this week.

Sounds good. You are right that I can not get the AAPL or MSFT without using the .US suffix. I am looking forward to the release of the September extension.

Thanks,

It's released. Please update the extension. I double checked it and you can get ^SPX since 1789 (?!) and ^DJI since 1896.

Can't say I'm happy with the fix. More details in the 'official' thread.
